Weather Alert: Cicero extends waring center hours at Public Safety Building

As we prepare for colder temperatures and winter weather, the Town of Cicero wants our residents to stay aware and educated about how to best manage these conditions.  Being prepared is the best way to stay safe from serious health consequences associated with winter weather.  We advise our community members to limit your time outside, wear proper layers of clothing when going outside, as well as being mindful of the signs and symptoms of frostbite and hypothermia.  We would like to see our community members not only take care of themselves, but also come together to provide assistance to neighbors, family members, pets, friends, the elderly and those that may live alone or have disabilities.

We suggest keeping an eye on the forecast 3-5 days out. Also consider how the expected conditions may impact you and how you can prepare.  

Below are examples of advisories and warnings that are issued by the National Weather Service.

● Winter Weather Advisory: Potentially dangerous winter weather is expected within the next 12-36 hours; Travel difficulties expected.

● Winter Storm Warning: Dangerous winter weather is expected in the next 12-36 hours or is occurring; Travel problems are expected.

● Blizzard Warning: Severe winter weather is expected in the next 12-36 hours or is occurring – including white out conditions. Do not travel.

ALL PUBLIC BUILDINGS WILL BE OPEN DURING THEIR NORMAL BUSINESS HOURS AS WELL.

Mientras nos preparamos para las temperaturas tan frías de esta temporada y para el clima invernal, a nuestro municipio (nuestra Policia, nuestro Departamento de Bomberos y el Departamento de Salud) le gustaría que nuestros residentes se mantengan informados y también educados sobre cómo manejar de forma efectiva estas difíciles condiciones.  Estar preparado es la mejor manera de mantenerse protegido ante las graves consecuencias que podrían resultar para la salud, las asociadas con el invierno. Aconsejamos a nuestra comunidad que limite su tiempo al aire libre; a cada uno le sugerimos que al salir use capas adecuadas de ropa, además de estar atento a los signos y a los síntomas de congelación e hipotermia.  Nos gustaría que los miembros de nuestra comunidad no sólo se ocuparan de ellos mismos, pero también que se unan para brindar asistencia a sus vecinos, sus familiares, sus mascotas, a sus amigos, a las personas mayores que conozcan y a todos aquellos que puedan vivir solos o que puedan tener discapacidades.

Sugerimos estar atentos al pronóstico dentro de los próximos 3 a 5 días. Considere también cómo se estima que las gélidas condiciones puedan afectarle a usted; y tambíén cómo usted y su familia pueden prepararse.

A continuación se muestran ejemplos de los avisos emitidos en las últimas horas por el ‘Servicio Meteorológico Nacional’.

● Aviso de clima invernal: se espera un clima invernal potencialmente peligroso dentro de las próximas 12 a 36 horas; Se temen dificultades cuando inicie un viaje.

● Advertencia de tormenta invernal: se espera un clima invernal peligroso en las próximas 12 a 36 horas o cuando esa tormenta está ocurriendo; se esperan problemas cuando este de viaje por la carretera.

● Advertencia de ventiscas: se teme un clima invernal severo en las próximas 12 a 36 horas o cuando esta precipitación invernal esté ocurriendo, incluidas las condiciones de ventiscas.    

Por favor, NO viaje si no tiene que hacerlo.
